The National Jazz Convention in Tampere

The Finnish Jazz Federation organizes the National Jazz Convention for its members each fall in conjunction with the Tampere Jazz Happening, lasting for two days.

The National Jazz Convention include various discussions and training sessions related to the field. The annual meeting of the Jazz Federation is held as part of the Jazz Convention. During the event, the prestigious Yrjö Award is presented, along with Yle’s Jazzradio recognition, the Varjo-Yrjö. In 2024, the discretionary Andania Award will also be given, recognizing long-standing and outstanding contributions to Finnish jazz. Additionally, the Taimi Award, first presented in 2023 and aimed at young musicians, will also be awarded.

This year’s National Jazz Convention welcome event will take place on Friday, November 1st, at Tampere Hall, where Elo-Liis Parmas, Executive Director of the Estonian Jazz Federation (Eesti Jazzliit), will bring greetings from the organization’s 20th-anniversary celebration and share the latest news from Estonia’s jazz scene. On Saturday, November 2nd, following the statutory autumn meeting, there will be a group discussion about the impact of national organizational funding cuts on the operations of the Jazz Federation, as well as the upcoming Jazz in Finland 100 anniversary year (2026).

The National Jazz Convention have been organized in conjunction with the Tampere Jazz Happening since 2014.
