Quartet Ajaton on a co-produced tour

Finnish Jazz Federation develops the sustainability of touring concepts. During fall 2022, we study the emissions of seven differently produced tours, and collect data about their impacts and user experiences. The second of the pilot tours features singer-songwriter Mia Simanainen’s Quartet Ajaton.

Quartet Ajaton (’Timeless’) is named after their relentless exploration through time. The band creates clever versions of musical elements from various eras. Their sophomore album, titled Early Music in the Latest Way (Alba Records 2020) includes renaissance and baroque compositions.

The quartet’s instrumentation has intrigued people since their first performances, some eight years ago, and for a reason: it’s one of its kind in the world! Together they have inspired audiences also in the UK, in Sweden, in Estonia and in Russia.

The group’s musical backgrounds are a mix of everything from jazz to baroque, from Argentinian tango to contemporary music, improv, and ’experiments of all sorts’.

On this tour, Quartet Ajaton maps the carbon footprint of touring as a part of the climate charting of the Finnish live music business. The tour is co-produced with the Finnish Jazz Federation (Suomen Jazzliitto), and it is a part of Jazz Finland Carbon-Neutral Tour Model project.
