Finnish Jazz Federation develops the sustainability of touring concepts. During fall 2022, we study the emissions of seven differently produced tours, and collect data about their impacts and user experiences. The last of the pilots features singer-songwriter Mirja Mäkelä’s trio on a record-release tour.

Mirja Mäkelä Trio released a new album So Far, So Me in April 2022, and now is headed to a album release tour. In its original line-up, Mirja Mäkelä Trio has been working together since 2006. The trio consists of the very best jazz musicians in Finland, each of the members being well established in the Finnish jazz scene.

The trio’s repertoire presents mostly singer Mirja Mäkelä’s own compositions which are based on Finnish poems. There are also lyrics in English written by Mäkelä herself, and some wordless songs where Mirja uses her voice as an instrument. The trio has performed at numerous festivals and clubs both in Finland and abroad, for example Pori Jazz, April Jazz, Korppoo Sea Jazz.

On this tour, the trio maps the carbon footprint of touring as a part of the climate charting of the Finnish live music business. The tour is co-produced with the Finnish Jazz Federation (Suomen Jazzliitto), and it is a part of Jazz Finland Carbon-Neutral Tour Model project.
