Finnish Jazz Federation at Jazzahead! 11.–13.4.

The biggest professional event and showcase festival in the jazz industry, Jazzahead!, will once again take place in Bremen, Germany, from April 11th to 13th. In the Showcase, Finland is represented by Linda Fredriksson Juniper and Kaisa’s Machine, and in the Clubnight program we’ll see Jukka Haavisto and Tomi Salesvuo East Funk Attack.

Finnish Jazz Federation will participate in Jazzahead! from the Music Finland exhibition booth, providing information about the Finnish jazz scene, as well as projects such as Jazz Finland Residency, Better Live, Nordic Jazz Comets, and JazzCamp For Girls.

Tuesday, April 2nd, at 14:00 / Music Finland’s Jazzahead Info Session
Finnish Jazz Federation will participate in the pre-Jazzahead! info session organized by Music Finland, held at Music Finland’s premises in Musiikin Satama, Keilaniemi, Espoo. Further details and registration can be found here (in Finnish).

In the night between Thu and Fri, April 11th–12th, at 00:15 / Showcase: Linda Fredriksson Juniper (FI)
Linda Fredriksson Juniper will perform at booth 7.1 in the exhibition hall. Their debut album, Juniper (We Jazz Records 2021), received exceptionally positive reviews from both critics and audiences. The album was awarded the Jazz Emma and Teosto prizes in 2022. Linda Fredriksson also won the Finnish Jazz Federation Yrjö Award 2023.

Friday, April 12th, at 10:30 / Clubnight Talk: Finnish Night meets Sivistys
Finnish Jazz Federation invites everyone to Clubnight booth to attend a discussion session organized in collaboration with Jazzahead! and the Finnish-German Society in Bremen, where Finnish performers will discuss cultural exchange between Finland and Germany and sustainable development.

Finnish Jazz Federation will participate in the traditional Nordic At Noon gathering at Jazzahead!, held in the Nordic exhibition area of the trade fair hall.

Friday, April 12th, at 20:30 / Clubnight: Jukka Haavisto (FI)
Jukka Haavisto, known for his expertise in fretless bass and as a composer of jazz fusion and world music fusion, will perform at Metropol Theater. The band will be complemented by young virtuosos guitarist Johannes Granroth, drummer Severi Sorjonen, and keyboardist Vili Itäpelto.

Friday, April 12th, at 21:45 / Clubnight: Tomi Salesvuo East Funk Attack
At Metropol Theater, drummer Tomi Salesvuo’s band East Funk Attack will perform their relentless and rootsy funk, featured on three album releases. This rock-oriented strike force has performed not only in Finnish clubs and festivals but also in Denmark, Austria, and Germany.

Friday, April 12th, at 23:15 / Showcase: Kaisa’s Machine (FI)
Bassist Kaisa Mäensivu’s band will perform at Schlachthof Cultural Center. The band has not only toured extensively in Finland’s major jazz festivals but also actively abroad. Next summer, they will be seen at the prestigious North Sea Jazz Festival. Their latest album, Taking Shape (Greenleaf Music 2023), made it to Downbeat magazine’s list of the best albums of 2023.
