Joakim Berghäll & Adele Sauros: Poems for Peace and T.I.M. on the Finnish Jazz Federation and Vapaat äänet Joint Tour

5.9.–12.9.2026

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, producer Charles Gil’s Vapaat äänet agency presents a nationwide tour visiting Salo, Kotka, Helsinki, Seinäjoki, Kajaani, Äänekoski and Joensuu. The concerts feature the meditative peace manifesto of saxophonists Joakim Berghäll and Adele Sauros, alongside the Franco-Norwegian trio T.I.M., whose music combines improvisation and folk influences. The tour is the 38th co-production between Vapaat äänet and the Finnish Jazz Federation.

The compositions performed by the duo Joakim Berghäll and Adele Sauros are based on a solo improvisation that Berghäll played in a single sitting, inspired by anti-war poems from conflict zones around the world. The melodic themes that emerged from the improvisation were transcribed exactly as they were played, without altering a single note, remaining faithful to the impulses of the improvisational moment. Berghäll and Sauros recorded the pieces in Helsinki’s Kamppi Chapel, resulting in the album Poems for Peace.

Joakim Berghäll is a Helsinki-based musician and composer who moves effortlessly across musical boundaries. Although the saxophone is his primary instrument, he also plays cello, bass, guitar and a variety of percussion instruments. His current projects include Berghäll Triality and his solo project The Berghäll Brothers Big Band. Berghäll performs and arranges music for Ismo Alanko’s current ensemble, while also composing chamber music and orchestral works in addition to small-group jazz.

Tenor and soprano saxophonist Adele Sauros is among the most active jazz musicians and composers in Finland and Europe. She performs regularly with numerous ensembles, including Adele Sauros Quartet, Superposition, JAF Trio, Quite Vivian, Katu Kaiku and Jonathan Bäckström Quartet. She has received several awards and grants and holds a Master of Music degree from the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki. A strong sense of emotional expression and storytelling rooted in her northern heritage characterizes Sauros’s music.

T.I.M. is a group assembled by French pianist Sébastien Palis, together with Norwegian vocalist Karoline Wallace and violinist Inger Hannisdal. The ensemble’s captivating minimalism inhabits the borderlands between folk music and improvisation, moving between light and shadow while blending acoustic expression with homemade electronics. The songs’ stories emerge as if seen through a child’s eyes, from instinctive memories, or from an ancient Inuit woman’s nursery rhyme. The Hungarian label BMC will release T.I.M.’s debut album, Tall, Infinite, Microscopic, in September 2026.

Pianist, organist, accordionist and composer Sébastien Palis is a founding member of the artistic collective Les Vibrants Défricheurs in Rouen, Normandy. He has performed around the world and has visited Finland several times with the acclaimed jazz quintet Papanosh. Inger Hannisdal is a violinist and hardanger fiddle player working in the fields of folk music and improvisation. Her compositions draw on shared characteristics of Norwegian folk traditions and Arabic maqam music. Karoline Wallace is a Norwegian jazz and folk singer, composer and songwriter. She has released three albums and participates in a variety of projects across Europe, including Silent Fires and ensembles led by Julia Strzalek.
