Max Zenger Globus and Flores album on Jazz Federation tour

Saxophonist Max Zenger steers his quintet through futuristic, voluptuous soundscapes and compositions that are as extraordinary as nature itself. The band tours eight Finnish cities on October 11–28, 2022.

Composer-instrumentalist Max Zenger’s saxophone and Kasperi Sarikoski’s trombone sound beautiful together, both in unison, and zigzagging around each other in bubbly melodies. The rhythm section is based on Kaisa Mäensivu’s solid bass and drummer Anssi Tirkkonen’s energy. The final touch to the flamboyant, rhythmic palette is colored by pianist Mikael Myrskog. In addition to their regular line-up, the quintet features even more rising stars: on three concerts the tour presents a guest pianist Tuomo Uusitalo, and one concert sees bassist Juuso Rinta stepping into Mäensivu’s sturdy boots.

In 2018, Globus won the first prize at the EBU competition for young ensembles at Jazz In Marciac festival in France. At the time, the quintet had recently released their debut album, and the second one, Flores comes out just in time for the Finnish Jazz Federation tour in October.

Jazz – heard and seen!

Finnish Jazz Federation’s essential form of operation is national touring. The annual touring activities enable approximately 100 concerts in 40 different locations all over Finland. The concerts mainly take place in their member organizations. Four of the tours are in-house productions, and five are produced in co-operation with external producers. In 2022–2023, the Jazz Federation runs a project, titled “Finnish Jazz Federation’s carbon-neutral touring model”. The aim is to map the carbon footprint and handprint of Finnish live music, and to develop the Jazz Federation’s own tour system to become more environmentally sustainable. On top of the seven pilot tours that will take place as part of the project, the Jazz Federaion studies the imprint of this and other regular tours too.
